How to turn a voice memo into a cartoon video

Upload the voice memo to a tool that draws pictures from what you say, such as Alpy, which runs in your phone's browser. It transcribes the memo, draws a simple cartoon scene for each part of it with one recurring character, and cuts each drawing in on your words, so your memo becomes a 16:9 video with your voice as the soundtrack. Memos can be 10 seconds to 20 minutes long, and you see the price before you pay.

How to do it on a phone

  • Record the memo. iPhone Voice Memos and Android's recorder apps both work. Talk the way you would to a friend, in a quiet room, holding the phone a hand's width away.
  • Listen back once. Every sentence gets a drawing, so cut false starts and long pauses in the recorder app first.
  • Open [Alpy](/create) in your phone's browser. No app to install. Choose My voice, then upload the memo from Files, or record straight into the page.
  • Pick a cartoon character. 34 free ones, from the Stickman to a hamster, a raccoon or a robot, or upload your own drawing. It appears in every scene.
  • Finish and download. You see the price first; download the MP4 with three title ideas, a description and a thumbnail, and redraw any scene you do not like.

What makes a memo work

  • One person talking. A story, an explanation, a rant with a point. The pictures come from the words.
  • Things that can be drawn. "I missed the bus and ran after it in the rain" draws better than "it was a stressful time".
  • A minute or more. A few seconds recorded to try it out becomes a video of a few seconds, too short to judge the drawings by.
  • The usual files. M4A from an iPhone, MP3 or WAV from Android or a computer.

Where Alpy is not the right fit

  • Horizontal 16:9 only, no vertical Shorts
  • One deliberately simple drawing style, not polished animation
  • No free plan

Questions

Is there an app that turns my voice into a cartoon video?
Alpy does it in the browser, on a phone or a computer: upload or record your voice and it draws a cartoon scene for each part of what you say, with one recurring character.
What is the app called that draws pictures while you talk?
Alpy draws a scene for each part of a recording after you upload it, timed to your words. It is not live: you record first, then it makes the video in a few minutes.

No. Your memo is the soundtrack exactly as recorded. Alpy never clones or changes a voice.
Can I make a vertical video for TikTok?
No. Alpy makes horizontal 16:9 videos for YouTube.
What does it cost?
Setting up a video is free, and you see the price before you pay. Finishing one video is $7 a video or $29/month.
