How to turn a Reddit story into an illustrated YouTube video
Get the author's permission, rewrite the story as narration, then paste it into a tool that reads it aloud and draws it, such as Alpy. An AI voice narrates the story (or you read it yourself), Alpy draws a simple scene for each part with one recurring character, and each drawing cuts in on the words it shows. That gives you a 16:9 YouTube video with pictures of the story itself instead of the usual gameplay footage. A free preview shows the first 10 seconds before you pay.

- A Reddit post belongs to the person who wrote it. Reddit's user agreement leaves ownership of posts with their authors. Message the author and ask before you turn their story into a video, and credit them as they prefer.
- Rewrite, do not just read out. Retelling it in your own words, with your own commentary, makes the video yours and reads better aloud than a post written to be skimmed.
- Change identifying details. Names, places and jobs in a personal story can identify real people. Change them.
- Reused content is not monetised. YouTube's monetisation policies exclude content that reuses others' material without adding something significant. Original narration, drawings and commentary are what count.
How to do it, step by step
- Rewrite the story for listening. Open on the moment that hooks ("My sister-in-law sent the wedding invitations to the wrong family"), keep sentences short, and cut the edit notes and the replies.
- Paste it into the studio. In Alpy's studio, choose AI voice and paste the narration. Scripts need 110 to 2,700 words; a long story of 1,500 words is about ten minutes.
- Pick a voice and a delivery. Six AI voices, each in 4 deliveries; a storyteller read suits most stories. Or record yourself reading it.
- Pick a narrator character. The Cat suits relationship stories, the Raccoon suits scams and drama, the Stickman suits almost anything; all are free, or upload your own drawing.
- Watch the free preview, then finish. The first 10 seconds are narrated, drawn and cut before you pay. Finish the video, redraw any scene you do not like, and download the MP4 with three title ideas, a description and a thumbnail.
Ways to make a Reddit story video
| Way | What viewers see | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Alpy | Drawn scenes of the story itself, one recurring character, 16:9 | Long-form story videos that stand apart from the usual format |
| Text-to-speech over gameplay (CapCut and similar) | The post on screen over Minecraft or racing footage | Vertical Shorts; a crowded, repetitive format |
| Hiring an animator | Custom animation | Budgets that allow it; price and turnaround vary |

Mistakes to avoid
- Reading the post word for word. "EDIT: thanks for the gold" and "TL;DR" do not belong in narration.
- Using a story without asking. Besides the author's rights, a channel built on other people's posts is the kind YouTube treats as reused content.
- Real names in the drawings. The pictures show what the script says, so a real name ends up on a sign in the video.
- Expecting Shorts. Alpy makes horizontal 16:9 videos for YouTube, not vertical Shorts or Reels.
Where Alpy is not the right fit
- Six AI voices, not a large voice library, and no voice cloning
- Horizontal 16:9 only, no vertical Shorts
- One deliberately simple drawing style, not polished animation
- No free plan beyond the preview
Questions
- Is there an AI that turns Reddit stories into illustrated videos?
- Yes. Paste the story into Alpy and it narrates it with one of six AI voices and draws a scene for each part, with one recurring character, as a 16:9 YouTube video. The first 10 seconds are a free preview.
- Can I use any Reddit post?
- Ask the author first: a post belongs to the person who wrote it. Rewrite it in your own words and change details that could identify anyone.
- Can Reddit story channels be monetised?
- YouTube excludes reused content that adds nothing significant. Original narration, commentary and visuals are what a channel needs; whether it is accepted is always YouTube's decision.
- How long can the video be?
- Up to 20 minutes, from a script of 110 to 2,700 words. About 140 words make a minute at a storyteller's pace.
- Can I read the story in my own voice?
- Yes. Record or upload yourself reading it and Alpy draws the video around your recording. Alpy never clones a voice.
- How much does it cost?
- The preview is free with no card. Finishing one video is $7 a video or $29/month.
