What views earn

YouTube Studio → Analytics → Revenue → RPM

Type your monthly views and RPM. RPM is what you earn per 1,000 views after YouTube's share.

How far from monetization

The long-form route: 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 public watch hours in the last 12 months.

Studio → Analytics → Engagement

Type your subscribers and watch hours.

Long videos fill watch hours faster, and from 8 minutes can carry mid-roll ads. See how many words that takes in the script length calculator.

How it works out

  • Earnings are monthly views ÷ 1,000 × RPM. RPM already has YouTube's share taken out and counts all your YouTube revenue per 1,000 views (ads, Premium, memberships), so the result is what YouTube pays you before tax. Sponsorships and other deals are not included.
  • Eligibility uses the long-form route of the YouTube Partner Program, as YouTube Help stated it on 28 October 2026. YouTube has announced updated Partner Program terms from 1 February 2027; check Studio's Earn tab for what applies to you.
  • Views needed are the watch hours left × 60 ÷ your average view duration. Only public long-form views count toward the hours, not Shorts in the Shorts feed.
  • Mid-rolls: YouTube allows ads in the middle of monetized videos of 8 minutes or more. How many words that takes: script length calculator.
  • Nothing you type leaves your browser. This is Alpy's site; corrections to hello@tryalpy.com.

Questions

How much does YouTube pay per 1,000 views?
It depends on the channel: your RPM (revenue per 1,000 views, after YouTube's share) is in YouTube Studio under Analytics, Revenue. It varies by niche, viewers' countries and the time of year, so use your own rather than an average.
How do I get monetized on YouTube?
Join the YouTube Partner Program: 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 public watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million Shorts views in the last 90 days, along with YouTube's other conditions (eligible country, no active strikes, 2-Step Verification, a linked AdSense account).
How many views make 4,000 watch hours?
4,000 hours is 240,000 minutes, so divide by your average view duration in minutes: about 80,000 views at 3 minutes, or 40,000 at 6 minutes.
Do longer videos earn more?
From 8 minutes a monetized video can carry ads in the middle (mid-rolls) as well as before and after, and a longer average view fills watch hours faster. Whether viewers stay is what decides it.
